CFR founder Dave Basterrechea began snowboarding in 1987 and traveled the world competing and filming until he landed in Whistler in 1997. He started using snowmobiles to go snowboarding in the backcountry that year. It was soon apparent that carrying his snowboard on his back was hampering his sledding, especially while tandeming. During the winter of 1999 he developed and tested his first prototype rack and CFR was born.
Decades later, Dave is still sending epic tandem hill climbs on his Ski-Doo Gen5 Turbo or exploring technical mountain terrain on his Polaris Matryx 850 Khaos. When the snow melts Dave rides hard enduro on his KTM 300 XC-W dirtbike and trials on his Scorpa 300.
During CFR's first decade, as the hunt for the perfect snowboard line lead us deeper into the backcountry, sleds became tools for exploration. With our reliable racks we helped facilitate countless first descents, and in turn our athletes helped refine our product.
Heading into CFR's second decade, as snowmobiles evolved into lightening fast and agile machines, we revoultionized handling with our Knucks Risers and series of industry-leading 7075 aluminum bars. Now well into our third decade, the thirst for exploration continues and we are endlesslesy inspired by the progression of our athletes and the community as a whole.
